Bay Area Farmers' Markets

There's some markets on the peninsula, too. I know of one in San Carlos (Thursdays) and San Mateo (don't know what day). Hope that helps.

BTW I loved your haiku this week!

Thank you for this... when the middle of the week rolls around, I'm often wondering where and when the local markets are happening.

malisa - If it helps I do feel a little guilty sometimes.

donna - I added them both. Thanks. x2.

nataleerae - I want to go to both of these markets. And I've added them to the list. Thank you.

susan - Welcome. I've added all the markets to the list. It's getting long but I love seeing them all listed by day. Thanks for the additions.

tamara - Me too. Aside from the food mid-week markets are a kind of refuge from the world. A mini retreat with carrots and cherries.

There's also a market in Palo Alto no saturdays from 8-12 from May - Dec, and a year round market in Menlo Park on sundays from 9-1. It's great that you compiled this into one central list!

jen @modern beet - Thanks for the additions. I've added them. I'm curious what the difference is in the Palo Alto markets that are on successive days, Saturday and Sunday, other than one is year round.

In Sonoma we have one year round on Friday mornings from 9-12 at the Depot Park and one on Tuesday evening in front of City Hall from 5:30 until dusk. That one goes from April until October.

I'm going to be in Oakland on Saturday, June 21 and I'm hoping to visit the Grand Lake FM! I have to drop daughter and husband at the SFO airport at 9:00 am, then be at the Amtrak station by 8:00 pm to hop the Empire Builder headed for Glacier National Park with my son. I'm looking forward to seeing a farmers' market California style!

kendra - I need a week off to just go to farmers' markets. As close as these are I've never been to them. Thanks for the info.

valereee - I've never been to the Grand Lake market but I looked at their site and they have some of my favorite vendors. The Saturday morning Ferry Building market in SF is the premiere market if you have the time. It's crazy busy but so delicious. And right on the water. Email me if you want more info.

kale for sale, the Ferry Building market sounds great! Yes, I'd love details! (Couldn't find an email link -- I'm at listval (at) cinci.rr.com.

Katrina, I had (though I'd until now forgotten) posted a query on chowhound, too, and they all said the same thing -- do the Ferry. I posted a link to your blog there.

valeree - I'm so glad you're getting to visit the Saturday market and thanks for the link. I forgot to tell you that the Slanted Door serves french presses of Blue Bottle Coffee - you won't have to wait in the line at the cart. You will however need to bring a bag so put your snacks for the train in because I suspect you won't be able to leave the market empty handed.

Yes, I'm hearing that with all the ready-to-eat offerings at the Ferry FM, I might not be hungry for lunch at 2:00! :D

Katrina,

You have a beautiful and insightful blog. Thank you so much for all of your work spreading the word on local farmers markets, and getting people excited about cooking with local food!

I work for Marin Farmers Markets, we run 7 markets in the Bay Area. You should check out our website: www.marinfarmersmarkets.org it has a list of special events going on at our markets that we constantly update.

Beginning in April (Sunday, the 5th) we are going to start doing Cooking Demos once a month. This month the owner and GM of FISH. (a sustainable seafood restaurant) will be our "Market Chef of the Day".

Thanks for your support,
Adriana

This is great! I live in Oakland, and there are a few other markets that I frequent. The North Oakland / Temescal farmer's market is one of the best, on Sundays (9-1) in the DMV parking lot on Claremont. It is always well-attended, and they have as many vendors as (and I think better prices than) the Saturday Berkeley market.

I just moved to the Laurel, and there is a brand-new market getting started at 4173 Macarthur in the Laurellinos restaurant parking lot, on Saturdays from 10-2. It's small for now: 3 organic produce vendors, and a few other local producers--honey, flowers, biscotti--and the Oakland Food Connection booth that sells spices, tea and beans. They also have students there cooking food to raise money for garden and nutrition programs. It feels great to be supporting a local community non-profit (http://www.foodcommunityculture.org/programs/plc.html) and getting to support a market I can walk to!

Becky - Thank you for the additional markets. I'm going to update this list and repost it soon.

Adriana - I missed your comment somehow. And the last two cooking demos! I will check out the events for the next one. Thanks for the information. I love Marin Farmers Markets. Actually I love farmers markets everywhere but MFM are my home.
